Notes From Kim
June-July 2008
It's hard to believe that June is just about over and we're starting on the second half of 2008. Where does the time go? We continue to process new donations at the library and add entries to our online catalog. There is always work to be done.
On a personal note, July will be a very busy month for me. On July 12, my son Andy, will be marrying his college sweetheart, Lauren. Our entire family is looking forward to this wonderful day. Then, on July 21, I'll head to St. Charles, MO to the NCRS Convention to share information on their archives here at the AACA Library. Driving back from there, my fiancé and I will stop in Yates City, IL and will be married in a small ceremony at the home of the couple who introduced us. Arriving back in Hershey, the staff at AACA will be hosting a coffee stop for an HCCA car tour on July 31. Whew! What a busy month.
2008 sees the AACA Library merged with the National AACA. This is of great benefit to all AACA members. All paid members are eligible to receive 1 1/2 hours of free research time per year as part of their membership. This merger is a win-win situation for everyone. We still need your monetary support as we continue to grow our Endowment Fund and our ongoing Collector Foundation Matching grant. Please keep us in mind when deciding on your charitable giving and remember that all gifts to the library are tax-deductible.
Progress is steadily being made on the online catalog project. Sales literature and owner's manuals from "A" through "Z" has been entered into our online catalog, with more material being added daily. Thanks again to the Collectors' Foundation for the $100,000. matching grant and their support of this project. Check out our online catalog at www.aacalibrarycatalog.org. Also, a big thank-you to past and present staff members who have worked so hard to get this material into the online catalog, especially Kathy Armstrong, who has been working on the catalog listing since 1993.
The AACA Library houses, in addition to its own collection, the SPAAMFAA Archives, the Pontiac-Oakland Club International Library, the Society of Automotive Historians Ralph H. Dunwoodie Research Archives, the Lincoln Motor Car Foundation Archives, the National Corvette Restorers Society Library, the Buick Heritage Alliance material, the Museum of Bus Transportation Library and the Pierce-Arrow Society Archives. We are very pleased to be able to administer these collections and keep them preserved for future generations.
With 26 years of travel down the road behind us, we look to a bright future and continuing our growth and improving service to you - the antique automobile hobbyist. Thank you for your continuing support. It is much appreciated.
See you down the road and enjoy all the meets and tours in 2008.
